Clay Worthington

I help your team build the resilient habits that turn talent into performance, and performance into results for your business.

A keynote speaker who spent sixteen years coaching athletes in the Olympic movement and is now helping teams raise their standards, own their results, and perform when it counts.

Complemented with the hard yards of owning, operating, and growing businesses where those lessons get pressure-tested and turned into something your team can actually use outside of the sporting context.

Quiet Sabotage: The Lies We Tell Ourselves That Hold Us Back
***
Most of us don't fail because the world stopped us. More often we fail because we quietly got in our own way and we'll be honest about everything except that. This talk is about the lies high performers tell themselves and the courage it takes to set them down. I lay it bare: how real self-honesty changes what a person is willing to attempt, and why taking your excuses off the table is the bravest thing you can do. Your audience leaves clearer about what they actually want and armed with the desire to go earn it.

Ramblings of a Failed Olympic Coach
***
I coached track cycling at almost every level of the sport, on five continents, inside two sporting systems, but I didn't achieve my goal of coaching at the Olympics. This is the story of a dream I chased with everything I had and how the genie got the punchline wrong. Failure and struggle are unforgiving and excellent teachers. The takeaway is that despite the difference between how you envisioned your goal playing out and how it actually played out you can feel proud of the journey and all that you built from your effort.

On dreaming big and staying the course:I saw a man pursuing the horizon;
Round and round they sped.
I was disturbed at this;
I accosted the man.
“It is futile,” I said,
“You can never —”
“You lie,” he cried,
And ran on.
- Stephen Crane, “I Saw a Man Pursuing the Horizon,” 1895
